Kaiser Permanente Lakewood Medical Office Building

The Art of Concrete partnered with DPR Construction to deliver the site concrete for Kaiser Permanente’s Lakewood Medical Office Building, creating durable, accessible, and visually cohesive exterior spaces designed to enhance the patient and visitor experience.

Our scope included broom-finished sidewalks, colored architectural concrete, specialty sand-finished concrete, planter and seat walls, concrete curbs, and site-furnishing installation. Throughout construction, our team worked closely with DPR and the project team to coordinate materials, finishes, sequencing, and constructability while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship across the site.

A Signature Accessible Pathway

One of the project’s most distinctive elements developed after construction was already underway, when Kaiser Permanente requested a highly visible ADA pathway to improve accessibility and wayfinding.

The pathway required more than simply changing the concrete color. Our team developed a custom solution utilizing white cement, yellow integral color, and a specialty sand finish to achieve the desired appearance while providing a durable, functional walking surface.

Multiple full-scale mockups allowed the team to evaluate color, texture, consistency, and overall appearance before moving into production. The completed pathway became one of the site's signature architectural features, providing an intuitive visual connection through the property while enhancing accessibility and the overall patient experience.

Building in an Active Environment

Construction also required careful coordination alongside active City of Lakewood roadways. Concrete placements, deliveries, traffic control, pedestrian access, and other trades had to be closely coordinated to keep work progressing safely and efficiently.

Through a culture of communication, collaboration, and shared ownership, The Art of Concrete and DPR Construction were able to address challenges as they arose without compromising the design intent or quality of the finished work.

Completed in December 2025, the project represents 8,460 labor hours with zero recordable accidents and zero lost-time incidents—reflecting our commitment to craftsmanship, teamwork, safety, and creating concrete spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
