Our Team

Founded in 2017, The Art of Concrete grew from the dream of wanting to create a new platform for designers to use concrete as a creative medium into the innovative decorative concrete company it is today. Although the company may be a newer company, the team has years of industry experience.

Karen Keyes

Owner/President

It is Karen's experience that will ensure the success of The Art of Concrete and gives the business a competitive edge. Karen is adept at all elements of this industry, and not only is her industry knowledge well regarded, but she is seen as a thought leader and innovator in her field.

Karen's concrete roots run deep - three generations deep to be exact. Her grandfather started his concrete business in 1943. From there, the industry and company evolved with the creativeness of decorative concrete. Karen's endeavored to learn as much as she could from her innovative father, Calvin Van Heukelem, who ingrained the passion for the artistic side of this industry in her.

Karen has found her own own niche in the industry - exploring the creative side of building and designing with concrete. She has an innate ability to help owners, architects and landscape architects design decorative concrete palettes. Karen is a decorative concrete consultant on all levels.

As a certified LEED BD + C AP, with a BA in Business Administration from Trinity Christian College, and a masters degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Denver it is no doubt that Karen is a master of her craft.
